The Australia-based studio Super Entertainment won the Guilty Pleasure Award with Steppy Pants. This game is an arcade-style “endless walker” with strangely addictive one-touch gameplay and hilarious physics-based animations!
Could you give me one sentence to describe you and your game Steppy Pants?
We’re Steve and Shath from Super Entertainment. After years of working at other studios on games like Fruit Ninja and Jetpack Joyride, we struck out on our own to live the indie dream. Every journey starts with a single step and we made ours a silly one!
How did you get the crazy idea of Steppy Pants?
One evening I was walking home alone from the local pub and I noticed myself avoiding the cracks as I walked along the sidewalk, just as I had always done when I was a kid. As soon as I got home I started prototyping the idea in Unity and Steppy Pants was born.
Why did you decide to leave a studio to create your own game?
I think we both just needed the freedom to work the way we like and on the kinds of games we prefer.
Are you surprised to win an award in this category?
Super surprised! We didn’t actually realize this category existed, but we’re thrilled to have won. Couldn’t be happier!
Are you going to release one or several new games in 2017? If so, will it be in the same spirit?
We’ve got a couple of new game ideas we want to bring to life in 2017. They may not be quite as silly as Steppy Pants is, but we definitely plan on bringing that same enthusiastic approach to game dev!
