The online judging session for the 15th IMGA Global has had a great number of judges of diverse nationalities and backgrounds. We are proud and very honored to have had all these judges that are helping us with the hard task of choosing the best mobile, AR and VR of 2018 as well as upcoming titles.
We asked one of our precious judges how their experience was with the online judging in the hopes of giving those that wish to sign up in the future, a better understanding of IMGA’s online judging mechanics.
Special thanks to Ruth Bram from Oculus who accepted giving us an inside of her experience throughout the whole online judging process.
I’ve been at Oculus for almost 5 years producing games and interactive experiences for our virtual reality devices. I’ve had the opportunity to work with all sorts of devs—students, indies and AAA devs on finding creative VR solutions to common gameplay mechanics.
This was a unique experience compared to other judging events I’ve been a part of. The coordinators shared an excellent, easy-to-use platform for reviewing and providing feedback. Most importantly, it still communicated the profound responsibility the online judges have to the community. I respect the time, hard work and creativity that goes into game development and appreciated the call to review the latest work from talented developers.
Yes, it’s an opportunity to find out what the community is working on, what games will be coming out soon, and to discover upcoming development studios.
Feedback is a gift. When offering and when asked, you have a responsibility to share fair and constructive feedback. I’ve unfortunately encountered instances when dev teams are so close to their project after working on it for years, that they are not as open to feedback or are not appreciative of it which can ultimately limit the full potential of a project.
Yes!
